City of Philadelphia overtime increased in FY2022 by $27.3 million, or 14.7 percent compared to FY2021, and by $4.9 million, or 2.4 percent compared to FY2020. The FY2022 preliminary overtime total of $213.0 million is the highest ever fiscal year total, and City departments overspent their overtime budget by $27.2 million, or 14.6 percent. Among City departments, the highest increases in overtime spending compared to last year were in the Police, Fire, Prisons, and Parks & Recreation departments, with public safety departments (Police and Fire) representing 68.0 percent of overtime spending in FY2022.
